This website was originally developed to host open education resources (OER) generated by the Flexible Learning Project for the Environment and Sustainability Program in the Department of Geography at UBC. It is now accepting submission of new OER from the geography community. Materials posted on this website typically are under a CC BY-SA 4.0 license. We invite members of the geography community to submit OER that will be hosted on this website for long term access.
The Flexible Learning Project was part of the the Department of Geography curriculum review for the Environment and Sustainability Program. The goal of the project was to leverage new learning environments, education technologies and pedagogical approaches to help students explore twenty-first century environmental issues. The Flexible Learning Project enhanced and transformed several existing courses and developed (or significantly revised) courses using innovative, critical pedagogical approaches, applying flexible and blended learning concepts. The project has made substantive contributions to integrating the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) into pedagogical practices in geography, including scholarly presentations and the development of several websites, online course content, GIScience learning modules, innovative assessments, classroom and group activities, concept inventories, and other OER. Accordingly, this website was conceived as a way to disseminate this OER content to the broader geography community. When building this website, we realized that a portal of evolving OER focused on teaching and learning in geography and environmental studies might be a better long term contribution of the Flexible Learning Project then a traditional archived website!
The purposes of this website are to:
- Serve as an OER portal for geography related materials for students and instructors
- Share information related to teaching and pedagogy
- Communicate project activities
- Archive project documents and deliverables
